Melissa visits Finest Playa Mujeres, Mexico

I visited Playa Mujeres, Mexico in Oct 2015.  Hurricane season.  Yup.  I have been pretty lucky in dodging the raindrops and severe weather when traveling in the fall.  On this trip, it was more rain than I have seen on vacation in a long time.  We stayed for 3 nights, and it rained for the first 2 days, we did see the sun peek out for a few hours on one day, and the sun was shining on our departure day.

Upon arrival into Cancun, Mexico, we were met by Lomas Travel.  Teal shirts and white pants, you can’t miss them.  Excellent service, top notch.  We upgraded to a private transfer, and it’s well worth it.  No stopping at other resorts, and a comfortable ride, friendly staff.

Arrived at Finest Playa Mujeres, and it is a gorgeous resort.  The resort opened in Feb 2015, so everything felt fresh and new.  We were warmly greeted with a cold towel and bottle of water upon arrival, and over to the check in counter we go.  Our room was not ready right away, so they gave us a pager and we were able to get drinks and lunch.  First time for me, getting a pager for a hotel check in.  Different.

FOOD:  Each restaurant we tried had excellent food.  We loved the steakhouse, by far that was the best food we had.  We loved Shoji, the teppanyaki show cooking, also wonderful food.  We tried the Mexican restaurant too, and even though the menu was small, we found great authentic Mexican food.  Loved the guacamole.  The main buffet we did visit for breakfast, and it was plentiful and well laid out, very open, ample space.

Finest Playa MujeresROOM:  We had a swim up suite, no upgraded service.  There are two levels of service you can upgrade to at the resort, we were very happy with our room.  I would have loved to have the Club level, the rooms did have a much better location to the main pool and the beach, but I can’t complain.

Due to the rain, the Mexican Fiesta night was moved indoors.  We had a blast hanging out with the mariachi band, singing and laughing the night away.

BEACH:  The beach at Finest was great.  This summer, the Caribbean and Mexico have been having some seaweed issues.  I was eager to check out the seaweed status at this resort.  I was happy to see very little seaweed here actually!  Sure, there was a little, but the employees said it was mainly from the recent rain.  And it did rain.  It rained for 4-5 days straight.  We caught the tail end of this weather pattern, so we had a bit of rain during our stay.  Not unusual for this time of year.

KIDS CLUB:  Finest Playa Mujeres is part of the Excellence resorts.  Excellence resorts are adult only, but this resort was family friendly.  What I loved about this was that the kids club was HUGE, but it wasn’t in your face.  In fact, until the employees told us, we didn’t know that there was a kids club, nor where to find it.  It’s not in your face, and it’s not the centralized focus of the resort.  The kids club is tucked away off into the corner.  There are buildings by the club, so I would assume, when traveling with kids, that is the area you’d want to stay in.  Perfect!!

OVERALL:  My overall impression of Finest Playa Mujeres was top notch resort.  Staff was friendly, restaurants were amazing food, pools, room, beach….all fabulous.  Up in Playa Mujeres, you feel almost like you’re in a gated community, safe and protected up there.  Great beaches.
