Change of Scenery, Change of Pace

Waking up exhuberatingly refreshed, we hit Vail. It was time for breakfast and a hike and wow, was I surprised!? I should have taken a clue from the surroundings of yesterday, but I was absolutely dumbfounded by the change in scenery. Coming from a place where all you needed was a cot, a water bottle and some sunscreen, this was certainly a different attitude and lifestyle! Fur shops, elegant restaurants, large, private chateaux, gorgeous – yes, but definitely a LEAP from where we had come from! It was still a paradise and a haven though. Families and little kids frolicked through the streets on the grassy knolls that covered the village. Even out of ski season it was alive with visitors taking advantage of lower prices and discounted restaurant bills (yes up to 30% off your bill during the off season!!). The scenery was still stunning in daylight. The mountains towered over you, the fountains were flowing, the streets were buzzing with visitors and the stores and shops really made you believe we were still not home from the strange wilderness and fantasy we had been in for awhile. When we left the village for a mountain path, it started to rain. While it was a bummer we couldn’t get a hike in, the cool and moist air was more than welcome and to see green life again; priceless. We were finally heading home. After being gone for so long, I was excited to go home. See my dog, get back to some semblance of normal. It had been, literally, a fascinating ride that I will never forget. It made us all turn away from our normal lives and be present. What a cool present for us all, memories, time spent together and a complete seperation from life as we know it. That’s when you know you’ve had a great vacation..
