I HATE CAMPING

There is no way around it. I never even liked sleeping in a tent in my front yard. I never got it, and to this day I don’t see the point. Why sleep outside when we have inside? Why sleep on the ground when we have beds? Why go to the bathroom in what is aptly named a ‘groover’ when indoor plumbing was invented to avoid just this?! I have never liked camping, and after a night of no sleep that took me out of the tent, in the tent, out of the tent – face to face with creepy crawlies, listening to things go ‘bump in the night,’ I remembered why I HATE CAMPING. Combine this with the fact that I also hate mornings, and cheerful morning people, and just people in general, I was not a happy camper and wished more than anything to just not be a ‘camper.’ Lucky for me, my mood changes easily with coffee and breakfast (especially when someone else makes it!). After our camp was put back in our dry bags and all the tents, cots and chairs repacked on the rafts, we were off for day 2. Don’t get me wrong, we floated and ate and walked, but today it seemed to be just what we were supposed to do as opposed to yesterday’s feeling of impatience. There was good conversation and long floats down the river just letting the current take you. Our day started with a hike up to and down the other side of a ‘saddle’ – definitely a worth advisary of a hike, but worth the view! National Geographic even named if one of the sites you must see before you die (check that one off the list!).  And, then after lunch they warned us… we were coming to the rapids. On this stretch of river there are approximately 35 rapids depending on the season. With the winter prior leaving the mountaints with little snow, the river happened to be low.  But, according to our guides this merely changes the rapids, not making them any better or worse from previous seasons. We went through five, easy peasy…. no problems. I thought I would be a pro until our guides informed us they are the easy ones. One more night of sleep – a night where all you could hear was rapids all around you..
