Relax Aboard Rocky Mountaineer & See the Beauty of America

Looking for a short getaway?  Relax aboard the Rocky Mountaineer and see the beauty of America’s unspoiled west in comfort.

When was the last time you were on a train, not counting the boring commute to work?  Train travel takes all the hassle out of a road trip – no traffic to contend with, no concern about getting lost, no expensive gas and potty stops, and no kids whining “Are we there yet?”  You’ll be “there” the entire trip when you take the scenic two day excursion between Moab and Denver aboard the Rocky Mountaineer.  This Canadian based train company has been operating its luxury journeys for over 30 years, taking passengers through the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the United States.  The trains in the US operate from mid-April through mid-October on a twice weekly schedule.  One of the unique features of these trips is that the trains operate only during daylight hours, so passengers never miss a moment of the incredible natural beauty on each route.

Routes in the US range from the popular two day journey between Moab and Denver to longer trips between Denver and Salt Lake City or Las Vegas.  If you’ve decided on the two day trip but have an extra day or two to spare, consider one of the many optional add-ons available at the beginning or end of the journey.  Moab, Utah, is home to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks where you can opt for thrilling 4WD tours, hiking or biking tours, or rafting trips on the Colorado River before you board your luxury train or after the train portion is finished depending on where you originate.  Beginning in Moab, you’ll traverse deep canyons, desert landscapes, and natural stone archways, passing by the eerie hoodoo rock formations caused by erosion over thousands of years.  As the train crosses into Colorado, the dry red sandstone cliffs begin to disappear, and lush tree studded mountains take their place.  You’ll stay overnight in Glenwood Springs, Colorado where you can spend the evening strolling through this charming western town, visit the Doc Holliday museum and enjoy outdoor dining and entertainment along the river.  The following day you’ll travel through the picturesque Colorado Rockies and glide through a series of tunnels including the six mile long Moffat Tunnel, completed in 1928 and still considered an engineering marvel.  Crossing the Continental Divide, you’ll arrive in Denver in time for a stroll in the RiNo neighborhood to check out the street art and enjoy a craft beer.

This two day package includes Silver Leaf Service aboard your roomy coach. Each dome car has wide windows extending to the roof of the train so you can marvel at the towering mountain tops, soaring eagles, and maybe spot a mountain goat or a black bear!  Two seats on each side of the aisle swivel so you can visit with those behind you.  Chef prepared meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at your seat and complimentary beverages are included.   A knowledgeable host accompanies passengers to answer questions and share some entertaining stories and facts about the regions you’re discovering.  Transfers to and from your comfortable hotel in Glenwood Springs and one night’s accommodation are also included in the package.  If you opt for Silver Leaf Plus Service, you’ll also have access to the newly remodeled lounge car and an outdoor viewing area.
