Africa … the Definition on an Amazing Trip!

I ended my trip to Kenya and Tanzania by flying to Zanzibar.  We met our driver outside of the terminal and he drove us to the White Sands Luxury Villas and Spa on the southside of the island.  The grounds were beautiful and lush and very close to the ocean.  On the southside of the island, there are tides, so when it is out, it is a long walk to the water.  We stayed in a two-bedroom villa, one upstairs and one downstairs with a private pool and separate sitting area.  This would be great for two couples traveling together.  The food was very good and it was very relaxing.

We then transferred to the northside of the island, where the best beaches are and you do not have issues with the tides.  We stayed at the Zuri Zanzibar Resort.  This was beautiful and lush.  They offer lots of activities and just relaxation.  There were families, young couples and older couples at this property.

From here, I took a spice tour where we walked around and they showed me different fruits and spices. Nutmeg is the king of the spices and cinnamon is the queen.  I had lunch at the owner’s home with my guide.  We had spiced rice, veggie curry, salad, veggie bananas (I did not know there was such a thing), sweet bananas and a variety of fruits for dessert.

After this, we drove to Stone Town.  We visited the slave museum, the market area where they sold fish and everything else imaginable, we walked by Freddie Mercury’s childhood home, the palace, museum and water front.  It was a very enjoyable, but tiring day.
