Killing Caves of Phnom Sampeau

Venturing into the Cambodia Jungle amidst sounds of belligerent macaques cackles is the mountain area of Phnom Sampeau. A 1/2 Day Trip (@12 KM) from the city of Battambang is the kind of place you might want to shy away from at night.

Now a place of peaceful beauty is in sharp contrast to its grisly history. The Killing Caves were the setting of horror where countless bodies were thrown during the Khmer Rouge Regime. Today there is a large glass memorial in the cave next to the skulls & bones. A golden reclining Buddah can be reached by staircase. Another memorial assembled from cyclone fencing and chicken wire contains human bones at the base of the stairway.

The mountain is home to thousands of free-roaming bats of course and probably (definitely) ghosts.

Rest assured I can arrange a private Jeep Excursion to get you out of there fast if needed.
