Why Cruise Alaska with Hurtigruten?
Alaska is in many ways “The Last Frontier” in the US. Its vast, uninhabited forestlands, wild rivers, and immense glacier fields are the epitome of nature’s grandeur. Hurtigruten Expeditions allow you to experience these wonders in the most eco-friendly way possible. Their “small ships” with a passenger capacity of approximately 500 guests, utilize hybrid technology to reduce fuel consumption and protect the environment. The crew and Expedition Team leaders are all passionate about maintaining Alaska’s natural beauty and resources. These team members are eager to share their expertise with fellow passengers, and are avid lecturers and teachers.
Your 14 day cruise travels from Vancouver, BC to Seward and Anchorage, Alaska. Your northward journey takes you past islands and fjords in the Johnstone Strait, ending in Wrangell, a seaside town famous for the petroglyphs that can be found along the beach. Kayak through glacier fjords in Petersburg, and explore the galleries in Haines, featuring indigenous art and sculpture. All along this protected stretch of ocean, you’ll have chances to see wild marine life, whales, sea lions and puffins as well as land animals bears, caribou, elk and moose who inhabit the old growth forestland.
Once in the open ocean, you’ll travel from Sitka to Ice Bay with its huge icebergs and glaciers and Cordova, a salmon fishing village, where you’ll find an amazing trail system for hikers, river rafting excursions, and wildlife tours. Seward is the final port of call where you’ll disembark and continue to Anchorage by bus. This route gives you another chance to see Alaska/s amazing wildlife along the highway But arriving in Anchorage doesn’t have to mean that your trip is over. Hurtigruten offers pre- and post-trip excursions in Denali National Park or on the Rocky Mountain Railway — a scenic journey through towering mountains to Banff National Park.
Alaska is a place that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime, and I can help you check an Alaskan adventure off your bucket list!
