Ringin’ in the New Year in Paris

All my life I dreamed of watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle, sitting outside of a French café, sipping on a latte, and enjoying a croissant. This year I was able to do just that. Of course, this was after the new show, Emily In Paris, came out on Netflix and made my dream of seeing Paris more immense. It jumped to the top of the list of places I wanted to visit.

This all started last fall when I realized I was going to be in Europe for the holidays. We immediately started laying out our schedule, Christmas would be with the family and New Year’s we were on our own. Then it hit me … Paris was only a 4-hour direct train ride from Lausanne. That mere fact helped us make our decision of where to spend New Year’s.

Our dates were set, our train was booked, and all that was left was to find a place to stay. We had spent months trying to find something affordable for two 20-something-year-olds, but because it was during the holidays, all prices shot up! We debated canceling our plans, but we hit the jackpot and found the perfect rental with the BEST view of the Eiffel Tower

We packed up after Christmas and made our way to Lausanne to take the train to Paris. We were set to spend 5 days there. Our first day was spent admiring the gorgeous Eiffel Tower views from our window and making our way to the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees. That night as we walked back to our place in awe of the beauty of Paris in the winter. The cafes were decorated with string lights and ornaments. I got to wondering how it was possible for the floral shops to have such beautiful displays of flowers outside on the streets in the winter! That was the Minnesotan in me, when in reality it was about 30 degrees on a “cold” day.

Our mission for our second day was to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We woke up early and made our way down to wait in line. We stopped at every level to take in the view from a different perspective each time. Of course, my favorite view was from the very top! It was crazy how far you could see out and how small the people looked down in the park.

After our Eiffel Tower climb, we found this amazing restaurant with the most delicious French Onion Soup! We walked around stopping to admire the floral shops, fromageries (cheese shops), and I was even able to use my new French skills to order myself a few macarons from Ladurée, which I highly recommend trying when in Paris!

New Year’s I got a call from my good friend who lives in the suburbs of Paris, that he was having a New Year’s Eve party, so we made our way out there by the metro system. Spent the night celebrating with friends and watching the fireworks go off by the Eiffel Tower. A must add to the travel bucket list!

We found ourselves doing our own walking tour the next day. We walked through a few other arrondissements and into some cute shops. We finally made the journey from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre, which took us about an hour since we kept stopping at every gorgeous bridge with a view. We didn’t go into the Louvre as the line was way too long for us, but we did snap some pictures outside of it (which still counts right)!

Our five days in Paris were spent living to the fullest and I loved every minute of it! I can’t wait to help you experience all the beauty that Paris has to offer its visitors! Contact me to get started!
